SAP Basis Basics Part 23
Change protected variant
When saving a variant, SAP offers the option of protecting it. By protecting the variant, it can only be changed by the user who saved it with this identifier. This function makes sense if many people in the system work with variants and these are also used by jobs, among other things. A changed variant in a job can have serious consequences for the system. The change doesn’t even have to be intentional. Variant “protect” is the right term here.
But if the employee who has this variant protected is currently on vacation or has left the company completely, the protection must be removed somehow. Luckily, like so many other things, there is a report for that.
The variant lock is displayed in the VARID table in the PROTECTED field with the value X. There you can also evaluate which variants are blocked and which user set the block. This indicator can be removed using the RSVARENT report.
