SAP Basis Basics Part 2

Pinging in the SAP system (ST06)

A ping is a type of technical call to another system.
The aim of a ping is to check whether the target system can be reached. Whether for error isolation, firewall testing, etc., a ping is one of the first options an administrator chooses.

Transaction ST06 opens a program where there are more options than just pinging.
The overview contains a display of CPU, memory and network statistics, which are not shown here.
A click on “Details Analysis Menu” leads to a system analysis tool that provides actual recordings and data from the last 24 hours. Everything is secondary at the moment.

If we now click on “Lan Check by Ping” we are close to our goal.
Here you can ping all connected systems such as the front-end computers, databases and application servers, as well as individual IP addresses. For example, a test server that is to be connected to SAP.
To do this, simply click on “Specific IP address” and enter the desired destination.
